1. Artist Profile
Silvardo Merales is an important representative of contemporary art in Brazil. He has been creating in the fields of conceptual art, sculpture, and immersive installations for a long time. Since the late 1960s, he has juxtaposed everyday objects, spatial configurations, and social circulation systems, developing an artistic language that combines sensory intensity, poetic metaphor, and critical awareness.
2. Artistic Concepts
Merelais focuses on how value is constructed by money, commodities, institutions, and language, and uses subtle interventions to trigger existing networks of communication and exchange. He often transforms viewing into a bodily experience through the use of scale dislocation, sensory contradiction, circular paths, and paradoxical structures, thereby touching upon power, memory, boundaries, and public participation.
3. Main Materials, Manufacturing Processes, and Technologies
The artist extensively uses readily available materials and socially-relevant objects, including glass containers, banknotes, wood, metal, rubber, wire, straw, and text carriers. His methods encompass installation construction, object modification, printing and textual interventions, spatial measurement, and multi-sensory manipulation, emphasizing the physical properties and symbolic meanings of materials.
