Eozen Agopian

Armenian (born in Greece; has long-term trips back and forth between the US and Greece)
1. Artist Profile
Eozen Agopian is a cross-media artist of Armenian descent born in Athens and educated in New York. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hunter College and a Master of Arts degree from the Pratt Institute. She has long been creating between New York and Athens. Her combination of painting, textiles, and line continues to expand the spatial and tactile experience of her graphic works.
2. Artistic Concepts
The artist responds to the fragmented state of experience, cultural belonging, and memory through stitching, splicing, and layering. The line is both an act of connection and repair, as well as a structural force that penetrates, suspends, and extends the image. In her abstract compositions, she constructs unstable spatial relationships, allowing fragmented forms to seek balance, connection, and unity in reorganization.
3. Main Materials, Manufacturing Processes, and Technologies
Her works are primarily created using canvas, acrylic, oil paint, fabric, and thread, combined with materials such as charcoal pen, pastels, and pins. Through painting, cutting, layering, sewing, embroidery, and weaving techniques, she embeds or extends fabric into the image; the color blocks, fibers, and stitches together form a multi-layered surface with a sense of shallow relief.
4. Anatomy and analysis of the work
This column will focus on the images in its works: how color shifts the visual center of attention, how lines divide, connect, or break through the canvas, how fabrics and canvases form layers, textures, and low-relief effects, and how techniques such as stitching, collage, and layering carry memories, identity, and spatial construction.
